To many factors come into play. Speed, different gameplay, goalie /player equipment....

Maurice Richard
Jean Béliveau
Gordie Howe
Bobby Orr
Wayne Gretzky
Mario Lemieux
and so on...

I was going to let this go, but I can't. Yes, Canadians dominate the sport, but you can't ignore the contributions of other great NON-CANADIAN players.

How about a few American greats?

Brian Leetch
Mike Richter
Pat LaFontaine
Chris Chelios
Mike Modano
Joe Mullen
Phil Housley

Granted, none of them are a Gretzky or a Lemieux, but we're Americans, and we wont be ignored!!! (We're too loud and annoying to be ignored)

I was not even thinking about Canadians or nationality. Those were the names that came to me. Just so happened they're Canadian.

The players you listed were very good, but did they really dominate? No. But do you have to dominate to be considered great? No as well. So why did I just write that?
I don't know.

Ron Burgundy: Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diago, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Veronica Corningstone: No, there's no way that's correct.

Ron Burgundy: I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.

Veronica Corningstone: Doesn't it mean Saint Diego?

Ron Burgundy: No. No.

Veronica Corningstone: No, that's what it means. Really.

Ron Burgundy: Agree to disagree.

Well, the two names on my list that I know best are the two Rangers (sorry, I am biased). Richter was consistently good his whole career (until the concussions), but only had a few seasons where I would say he dominated as a goaltender. Broduer, on the otherhand, has been consistently better than good, and several dominating seasons.

I would say Leetch dominited, for his role. The offensive defensman never gets the attention that the pure scorers do. But in that specific role, he was one of the greats.

agree ... the offensive D-man always flies under the radar. Leetch is one of the greats.

The only players I would consider in the argument for best of all time are all Canadian
