unintentional yeast use?

has anyone used a yeast strain, but done something diffrent with it? since its rather cold in my apartment, i cant do ales during the winter months, but its not down to the 40 to 50 range either. so ive been playing around with california lager yeasts the past few months, doing the traditional brews, but, could i do other lager styles with it? not just an amber lager with northern brewer hops, but light european lagers, dark lagers, fruit lagers? my temperature range during these months is around 55-66, perfect for this yeast strain, and while i do enjoy cali lagers, i also wana see what else it can produce.
any ideas? is this a mainstream idea that everyone trys? say i do a witbeir, but throw this yeast in, something like that?

I like Cal Lager for pretty much any balanced to malt oriented style. It works but is not ideal for hop-forward styles like APA and IPA as it tends to mute the hops.

Leave out the yeast specific styles (Belgians, French, weizen), be careful on the Pale Ales (or at least know what to expect) and make pretty much anything else. If you make English ales with it, ferment it warm like in the low 70s.
What's on tap: Cream Ale, Imperial Blonde
Secondary: British Amber,
Primary: APA

You could also pick up a small electric blanket from a target type store, and get the temp as warm as you want.

Another possibility might be a belgian triple- I'm thinking the amount of yeast you would need to pitch would keep pretty active and warm for the fermentation.
