I've been playing catch-up on the shows for a few months now and decided to make it official and register.

Born and raised in Oregon, a few years travelling with Uncle Sam, finally settled in at Hood River, Oregon. Oregon tends to be a tough state if you need to find good beer so I decided to brew my own. I had been doing extract for a few years and switched to all-grain this past summer ( I just medalled in my first competition this past weekend!!!).

I'm looking forward to using the information available here and on the shows.

Although I've never been there, I have this image in my head of Oregon being a beautiful green place with a top-notch microbrewery on every corner.

Is the "tough" part having too many choices?

In the Willamette Valley (Portland area) and the coastal regions you are quite right about "too many choices". However, Hood River is on the other side of the state. That area is redneck cowboy country where all the bars stock both kinds of beer, Bud and Bud Light. Anything else is for those damned city slickers and hippies.

Yeah, being a bit facetious there. There actually is a state mandate that there is a brewery on every corner......

Bugchomper, we're not that hick out here in the Hood. Two microbreweries (Big Horse and Double Mountain) and a big brewery (Full Sail). Not bad for a town with a population of 5-7K!!!!

We should be so lucky. We are that hick where I live. Thanks for reminding me about the local breweries there. I left Oregon many years ago just before the craft brew craze took off. Full Sail does make some tasty brews. I'll have to make it back out to Oregon one of these days for a visit.

Oregon tends to be a tough state if you need to find good beer

You just need to but it in context, Oregon sits between Washington and California two craft and microbrew heavens, so I guess it would be like this if your in Oregon there is a possibility your local Gas & Go, or 7 eleven might have a limited selection of craft brews forcing you to the supermarket and the 10 items or less line. We are not talking Wyoming like difficulties in finding a good beer. As a side note what beer did you enter in the competition.
