Now now awalker

no need to go all euro centric on us...

Many amaericans are bilingual and speak both their native tounge AND english. Besides, Amaerican isn't all that hard to learn, when I was in Vegas getting married (oh yes I did) I found one of the relatively uncommon amaericans who couldn't understand me. After trying the normally effective method of speaking slowly and loudly (I understand that the english use this method with some success in Europe) I was unable even after several minutes of trying, to make myself understood while ordering a Bourbon and Coke in the Golden Nugget casino. Then I thought to myself... stop being a rude foreigner Thirsty, try to speak thier language...

So I put on my very best John Wayne accent, asked for a bourbon coke, and the waitress who seconds before had been looking at me as though I came from mars, replied with a friendly, "no problem" and five minutes later I had my drink... which was a comp. Vegas is fucking heaven, even if you do have to talk funny to get a drink!

Welcome, Deutschman! I drool at the very mention of Cantillon... what was THAT like? It's more than $30/bottle at a local shop.

A few decades ago I lived in Panama. Whenever an Australian cruise ship would come into port, my roomate and I would head to the bars. The local bartenders refused to believe that the Aussies were speaking anything resembling English, so we would step in as interpreters. That always got us lots of free drinks and a great evening of partying.

Better or worse than calling myself a Californian?

Okay, sorry, that was a low blow.
