New TBN brother

I started listening to the podcasts when I broke down and got a used iPood Nano. I still hate Steve Jobs, but I love your podcasts.

I started with extracts and bottles back in '00. I started AG about 5 years ago (on and off) and built a kegerator around that time. I still do extract Paulaner hefe clones from the Clone Brews book.

Local area liquid nourishment establishments I frequent in northern VA.... Old Dominion Brewery (now AB's bastard child), Vintage 50 (was Thouroughbred's), Tuskarora Mill (about 20+ brews on tap) and DuClaw (in Maryland though).

Welcome Pixelmonk,

Its always good to have another experienced brewer here at the BN. More chance that realtive newbies like me can get our dumb questions answered :)

If you still do them, those paulaner Hefe clones must be alright... mmm Paulaner Hefe. I still cant decide if I like it or Franziskaner the best

Anyway, welcome to the mayhem

Franziskaner for the win!

I tried doing the AG version of the clone and it bombed horribly. I actually dumped it before the boil I was so pissed. I had problems with my false bottom popping up and grain getting in. While screwing with that, the grain turned into a big brick. I was told I should've used rice hulls to help with any AG hefe beer. Since then I've stuck with extract for that clone and I use a SS mesh with a copper tube inside my MLT as a replacement for my false bottom.

Brother or Brutha?

Oh, another thing, Weihenstephaner Hefe Weiss beats Franziskaner or Paulaner any day, in my book.

Haven't tried Schneider yet. I had a Hofbrau hefe the other day and it was skunked. See: http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4268
