Suggestions on good "gateway" beers for the ladies

I think I saw a thread on the B3 forums regarding this, but I wanted to hear what people here had to say.

I realize there are probably plenty of girls that like beer and have good taste in beer, but I am hard-pressed to meet one.

My question is, what is a good beer style to get a girl into the goodness that is beer? I am specifically talking about the kind of girl that primarily drinks stuff like Smirnoff Ice and thinks beer is "gross," since all she has been exposed to is lousy beer.

Any good commercial examples or general beer styles would be appreciated. I realize any good beer could help a girl appreciate beer, but any specifically good styles to start with would be great.

My wife hates beer, but loves this. She still won't drink any other beer tho. She does try every one that I make. I have no idea why.

Yes, I recall the show discussing your beer.

I'll give the recipe a try at some point here. I hope to finally get my first-ever brew done this weekend, so trying out the vanilla bourbon porter will have to wait at least some time.

I'l definitely give it a shot though, no doubt.

If you are looking for something with a fruit flavor, Lindemann's Framboise(raspberry) Lambic has always worked with the ladies for me. They make different flavors also Peche (Peach) and a few more I forget. Unibroue Ephemere is also pretty good. They have 2 flavors with a 3rd coming out this fall.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will most certainly check them out if I come across them. I've honestly never heard of either one. Something tells me you have a bit more drinking experience than me, haha.

I am sure living in Chicago with 2 of the biggest liquor/beer stores in the USA nearby helps also.

Brewcrew's suggestion of using a fruit Lambic is an excellent one...and it worked! After discovering that this was in fact a beer, she became more interested in different beer styles. I then began trying to replicate a frambois for her, mainly to justify my homebrewing passion, with little success I might add.
She has been a good sport and appreciates the process and hard work that goes into making good beer. Her palate has since grown appreciably as she has been my tasting “guinea pig” of late (which tends to be amusing). She's slowly developing quite an affinity for many beer styles.
Give her time...Soon she'll be asking for another IPA!
