And a case of arson a block over.

You'd expect some trannies if we walk up Castro St? Or is that only on the other side of the bay?

The recent shooting of a dirtbag on BART, by the BART cops has the locals on edge and there are protest on a weekly basis. In my opinion, it was a big mistake to have any event in Oakland. Taking BART, or walking just a few blocks anytime after dark is just plain stupid.
I don't intend to rain on anybodies parade, but you need to fully aware that Oakland is not a safe city. If you look like an outsider, you are a target.

Whoa there calpyro! :? I'm not going to tell you that downtown Oakland is the safest place but I get down there quite a bit at night and I've never had a problem or heard of one from someone going to an event. The Marriott is located in a redeveloped portion of downtown Oakland. It's well lit and well patrolled. I wouldn't advise walking too far outside that area unless you're in a very large group. As far as Bart goes, it's rare there's any problem and extremely rare there's an officer involved shooting. I take it to downtown Oakland all the time either alone or with a couple of other asshats and always feel safe enough.

The Oakland Marriott is at 10th and Broadway. Here's some current crime data that calpyro linked but drew a different conclusion: http://oakland.crimespotting.org/#dtend=2009-03-13T00:00:00-07:00&dtstart=2009-03-06T00:00:00-07:00&lon=-122.270&types=AA,Mu,Ro,SA,DP,Na,Al,Pr,Th,VT,Va,Bu,Ar&lat=37.802&zoom=15 Linden Street is on the lower left.

BN4 will be in a part of Oakland you probably wouldn't want to walk from to your hotel late at night. Nobody should walk back to their hotel alone or in a small group. We'll be making all BN4 attendees aware of this and we'll all be on guard looking for brave brothers walking off on their own.

I've been to five conferences and the only time I left the hotel was for food and beer when the beer in the hospitality suite sucked. There are plenty of places to eat close to the hotel and I promise you the HS beer will not suck. if it does, let me know. I'll find out how J got his beer in there.

Justin is keenly aware of all this and rest assured nothing is more important to him than the welfare of all those that attend. Reasonable precautions will be taken. As long as we all keep ourselves aware of where we are and exercise reasonable caution, and that doesn't include pack'n Badrock, the "parade" won't get pissed on and we'll have a fantastic time. And I mean real f'n fantastic time. :D

Interesting, not much Prostitution or drug dealing in the area. I thought everyone was promised hookers and blow?

The place next door to the brewery is Airsoft Extreme which sells fully-automatic airsoft guns. I recommend slinging a few beers back and start a good airsoft battle in the streets of Oakland if you want to fit in with the locals. This would take the BN Army to a new level.

As a wise man once said, "Walk tall and carry a big stick"

I prefer "Walk tall and walk beside BadRock." :asshat:

You mean "Walk behind BadRock and be ready to run."
