Martin, what is the brew scene down there? How tough is it to get supplies like different hop varieties? I bet you wish you could bring some Kent Goldings back from the UK. I get to Christchurch once or twice a year with the company and NZ is a beautiful place.

Martin is a lucky boy -

great breweries in NZ - - lots of winners at the recent Aus International Beer Awards from New Zealand. Macs Sassy Red IIRC was grand champion...? and Hops .. .. well those Kiwis know how to grow some nice hops. Quite a lot of the hop varieties we use here in Australia, are in fact grown in NZ, including some pretty amazing varieties that I don't think are in regular usage in the states. Nelson Sauvin anyone?? They are one of the few places we can import hop flowers from because quarantine wont allow whole flowers from you more disease infested countries. New Zealand is still pure and virginal enough so that we trust them though.

Welcome to the BN Martin, great choice of Brewing Radio and forum... not bad choice of country, you just missed a little to the right of a really good one, but not a bad shot for a Pom. At least you have a half decent cricket team now........ :P

Now now, I said it was the New Zealanders who were growing the great hops .... but

POR is a perfectly nice hop if used appropriately - and as for Aussie hops that are just plain great, if you get a chance try some Galaxy. Passionfruit, mangos, citrus - its a fruit salad hop and its just amazing.
