Help With a Chest Freezer

I have a chest freezer that has not been converted to any uses for brewing yet. It will only get down to about 50 degrees. The front interior wall of the chest freezer will get cold enough to have ice crystals form, however the back wall will not.
The compressor obviously runs, and will shut off it I turn the temp setting knob low enough. (to like the setting of 1)

Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be going on with this and possible remedies?

Thanks in advance

Perhaps you could do this?

Otherwise, yeah, its screwed. Maybe you could use it as a ferm chamber for the winter.

I was planning on using it as a fermentation chamber. I had looked into the page on the BNs page and actually most of the hardware to make that work. However if he freezer itself had any sort of life left in it o would like to go that route however I still need to take a look and check things out with it since I left for vacation the day after acquiring the freezer and just got back. I shall have to see...
