Start the laugh fest - I'm an idiot

Sun May 31, 2009 6:42 am

So I was finishing up a batch of beer in my 6.5 gallon glass carboy. Everything had gone great, proof that I was getting better and better with my process - I would soon be ready for my first all grain batch

Everything was a go - the yeast was pitched the brew looked good - all that was left was to put on the stopper and the air lock

Then DISASTER!!

I pushed the stopper a bit to far and in it went - by this time in the brewing process I was pretty drunk and figured it was too late anyway so I sanitized a new stopper and went ahead as normal

The next day I had forgotten all about it

now here it is four weeks later - I have crashed cooled my carboy all set to rack into my keg

I'm feeling really good about myself as this mysterious object appears in the trub

about a second later the cursing begins as I remember what the object is

The worst part about it is not wondering if I have ruined a batch that was my own recipe, the worst past is that I can't get it out

And now... The cursing begins again

Slip a hankerchief part way into the carboy. Tilt the carboy so the stopper rolls onto the hankerchief and pull it out.

I've done that before. What's funny is that you forgot about it. I would have loved to see the look on your face when you had that forehead slapping moment as you dumped the trub.

I've done this before and it's surprisingly easy. Use a trash bag and fish it out. The wine folks figured this one out for us.

A plastic grocery bag will work too and it might be a bit thinner, but same idea.

You are not the first one that this has happened to!

Is this a great community or what? Random question at 7am pacific and you get 4 good answers right away.

The insults don't start until after noon. After everyone hits the Duvel and puts on their nutters. :nutters:
