One of the first things I took care of, probably can see it better from another angle.

Can we get some details on that configuration. Also, what do you do professionally? You had better say engineer of some sort with that kind of build!

Great system. One question. Why not use the thermometer ports on the Blichman pots for the temp feedback? Why even have analog gauges?? Get the RTD/Thermocouples into the port where you have the analog gauges. Just curious.

An old computer just used for the web browser above the main control box. The monitor is a touch screen so I don't have to deal with a keyboard and mouse while brewing. The system is controlled by a BCS-460 with an expansion board which handles the 120 VAC, 24VAC , and 12VDC needed for the components. The burners are all controlled by continuous pilot Honeywell furnace valves (24VAC). There are three march pumps hard plumbed around the base that are connected by six electronic ball valves (12VDC). The system can recirculate in each kettle as well as transfer from one to any other one without having to change hoses. I got that idea from JonW who has posted his really beautiful system in a couple other forums. The exhaust is taken care of by a 500 CFM fan. I still need to tweak the plumbing a little there are a couple of small leaks in some of the NPT fittings, I am setting up a couple of water inlets one for a charcoal filter and the other for the plate chiller. I also have to figure out what I want to do for the exhaust hood.

I'm a scientist at a biotech company, I figured out how to put this together from reading a lot of forum posts and/or Google, so I guess this is my home lab.

There are certainly several ways I could set up the temp probes. Here are some of the reasons I went with this config initially. There is a recirculation loop for each kettle so I should be getting a reasonably consistent reading due to the continuous flow over the probes. The temps may not be 100% accurate because of the placement of the probe but it should be reproducible. I don't really need the analog gauges so much but it will serve to verify the temps in the kettles. Having the probes in tees makes them easily removable with the cam lock fittings as well as making all of the kettles swappable. There probably several other ways to set up the probes, too. I have also seen them at the pump inlets which is nice because all of the wires can be tucked out of the way. I will probably try different configurations eventually.

hi,
thought i would show my latest brewery build. Its a 9l (2.5 gal) braumeister inspired rig that has been named the Braumiser

Image

Its made out of a 20l ( 5.3 gal) pot and is designed to give 9l of packaged beer up to a SG of 1.050, it has a march pump for recirculating and a 316 stainless steel 1750w 240v element for heating and boiling, both are controlled by a microcontroller that is programmed to have a manual mode that allows me to adjust the temperature up or down and turn the pump and the heating element on or off, and an Auto mode where the brewing process follows a set of steps ( up to 6 mash step) that i can put into it before hand, it has a buzzer that alerts me when there are things that i need to do like 'add malt' and 'remove malt', it has a timed boil with up to 5 hop addition alarms.

All in all it is a great little unit, the whole brewing process takes about 3.5 hrs from milling the grain to being packed away, I can brew inside on a bench, which means for me i can take advantage of more spare time. I have a ZIP package that contains PDF's of the build
all the schematics and programs that i used to build it, i can post it if you guys are interested in it.

cheers steve

Well done. Great job on the full do it yourself technique. I am an off the shelf kind of guy myself. Great job.
