First AG batch baby!

Wed Jun 21, 2006 4:39 pm

Well I captured some of my first AG session on digi. We did 10 gallons of an oatmeal stout that will be getting entered in the HopHeads.com Comp. This is all my buds equip and I'm building up all my shizz as we speak. Here we go.....

We were going to try and fit 25.5 lbs of grain in one 10 gl mash tun, but didn't want to take a chance... we we used two and had to scrounge up another braided hose for a filter. Yum.

Startin da mash

My bud Scott churnin da butta.

Scott and I finishing up the mash... by the way it was a 90* brewday, fukin hott! Nailed the mash temps on both tuns. 155* on the button. Time for some brews and volleyball.

Image

His kettle is the shit!... and was totally free. I'm converting the other half of the pool filter that he converted it from. Chlorine and beer is great, eh? hah... I know someone would comment on the pool filter thing, but it has never effected any brew he's made.... they all are awesome.

Look at that puppy go.

Now for the ghetto hop bag holder.....

Image
Image

Time to cool that shit down.... we got it down pretty quick for having brewed 10 G's... this was the first time he's attempted it on his system.

Image

It's always hilarious to bet your drunk friends they can't keep their foot in the mash tun for over 5 seconds. was some funny shit....

Image

HOT grain fight! The shit really burns, no joke.

Image

I use to be skinny, but since my brewing.... yea, you know where I'm going....

It was a sweeeet brewday. I'll be on my own AG system before the summer ends.

Far too many naked men and not enough naked women, JB.

Love the grain-foot-fry... sounds like a BN contest to me.

Even though you attempted to awaken my dormant homoerotic underlayment, I appreciate your zeal in sharing with us, man. Well done!

Fricken funny bro. The grain foot fry is classic. Pulling the the manifold out of my mash tun at clean up, leaves that bad dad uncomfortable hot. I think about 130 degrees is the threshold for human skin contact, over 30 seconds.
I worked in the pizza industry for a long time and have baked my arms in angry deck ovens. I would not, on the other hand, dip my foot in my mash tun, even after lautering. Hope dude can put on a sock.

Nicely done JB!

That is a pretty sweet kettle. And volleyball, BBQ, and ladies on brewday... kudos. I can't get any of my friends out when I brew...

Keep us posted!

Good job.

The only thing I recommend you doing next time is covering your wort when it is being chilled. From this point on you want to be careful with exposure to potentially contaminating air. But don't worryfor now, your beer will be fine.

Thanks brothas. PE, I know you're trying to live through the young brewers of america, but I can't post naked pics on here. I don't want any of the married men to get in trouble or even worse, get jelous! I'll be staying single forever, so you can live through me forever I guess. :P

Kaiser, I know man... we have to get some big ass lids for these kettles.
