Yeah, sorry about that. I was hoping that one of our pocket protector dudes could trace the PCB and figure out how this thing works. Damn if I could draw a schematic of it. Turtles, remember?

That's a triac or the like for AC. It won't help you for controlling a DC motor.

I'm a little too drunk to start tracing routes, but he might be able to desolder the voltage regulator and solder in the appropriate DC regulator????????

But basically, as is, it it sort of wortless, unless you have or can find an AC fan to use. They are about $10-15 online.

You *are* drunk. That isn't likely at all. First, that's a triac, not a voltage regulator, and secondly, if you did kludge in a DC regulator, it'd turn to smoke. There is no rectifier there, and even if you had a simple half-wave rectifier, you'd still have too much DC voltage for the input of any regulator I know of. We need an EE in here to back me up.

Anyone?

I apologize if I misunderstood what you were trying to say, though.

let me try to look at the circuit, but if you use a 12v DC supply.......

DAMN New Glarus is malty goodness.....................................

EDIT: Your right, it's a completely different circuit layout. It's worthless unless you use a 120V AC fan.

I actually HAVE an AC fan, if that matters... Can I use that device to control the speed of a 110v van?

Maybe. Most AC motors don't generally respond well to dimmers of this type because they are an inductive load. They'll usually just sit there and hum, and some will overheat and burn up.

It MAY work. Don't burn your house down. Mine almost caught fire tonight, but that's another story I might post about in off-topic.

wait, you can't just stop like that Code. That is a story that needs to be finished. Please. It sounds almost Meet worthy.
