ATL transplant forum rookie

I just wanted to say Happy New Year to the rest of the BN Army! I have not used the forum before, but have been listening to the podcast archives since about last June. I somehow decided it would be a good idea to listen to every show in order starting at the very beginning and will continue doing so until I finally catch up the live Sessions. I am currently on the April 1, 2007 podcast and at the rate I'm going, I should be all caught up in a month or two. I would like to warn MedTech that I am planning on winning drunk of the century that night so he'd better start training now.

I also wanted to let you all know how much I've learned from everyone and how much fun I've had listening to the archives so far. I have been brewing on and off for a few years now but my living situation the last 3 years or so has not been conducive at all to brewing. Hope fully that will be changing in May and when it does, I can't wait to apply everything I've learned (and finally have the room to move to all-grain).

Anyone else from Atlanta? I'm a transplant from Chicago and only know a couple of other brewers down here so if you wanted to meet up by any chance, I am actually one of the tour directors at the Atlanta Brewing Company and am usually there on Fridays - and maybe Sundays now that it's confirmed that Da Bears blow and my NFL season is effectively over. Let me know and I'll get you in for free thereby saving you the whole $7.

Welcome to the insanity! Once you get more caught up on the podcasts, you will find you don't stand a chance at drunk of the century. You would have to beat spewing your dinner on the front yard while talking to the brewcasters on the phone.

Don't know of any forum folks from Atlanta right off. You will probably hear from Macgruffus down at the other end of I-75 from you in Savannah. He also happens to be a beer distributer so you may run into him in person at work.

You done good getting hooked up with the guys at ABC. Great brewery and super nice group. I've gotten in trouble drinking some of Dave's oak aged stuff before!

Bug's right. I am a beer distributor here in Georgia but unfortunately not for ABC. Doesn't keep me from stopping by on a regular basis on my travels through town.

There are a couple great homebrew clubs up there so you should find plenty of local support.

Oh and you have made it over to the Brick Store in Decatur, haven't you? Recently voted the 3rd Best Beer Bar in America! Worth a trip just for the Belgian bar upstairs. Tell Dave, Mike or Tom (the owners) that I sent you. All good friends and great customers.

If you ever make it down here to Savannah, let me know.

Ha! David, I think I actually met you last summer at the Chattanooga Beer Festival. I was one of the two ABC guys working there and if I remember correctly, I commented about your BN Army shirt.

I'm actually trying to convince McClure into making that Red Brick Bourbon for their upcoming 15th anniversary this year. Not sure if that's the same oak-aged stuff you mentioned but if not, I'll save you a bottle if he makes it again.

And yeah, The Brick Store is the only place I really know of around here for awesome beer selections. That place is incredible. I'm used to Chicago where I knew of every good beer bar in a 5 mile radius. In fact, the only one up there that rivals The Brick Store's Belgian selection is a place call Hopleaf. So, if anyone decides it's a good idea to visit Chicago in the winter, I recommend hitting that place up to warm up a bit.

You might want to Muss and Turners up in Smyrna. I've not been yet but am coming up for a dinner on the 21st with Clipper City. They are bringing some of their Loose Cannon in a cask.
