Hey from Phoenix

Tue Dec 04, 2007 7:50 pm

Well, it's actually Mesa AZ but I figured everyone knows where Phoenix is while Mesa may be a mystery. It adjoins Phoenix to the east and is actually geographically larger, the largest city in Arizona.

I'm a gear head, former motorcycle racer and still a confirmed motorcycling nut. My wife also rides. Her sister's husband, Ryan (uh, that would be our brother in law) is an excellent homebrewer and president of his club in San Diego. I brewed a few homebrew kits in the 80's but never got serious with it. Tasting some of Ryan's homebrews got me fired up. Now it's become my obession.

I'm brewing extract with grains and kegging the result in cornies. My wife, Donna bought me a kegerator with room for three cornies and a 5lb CO2 bottle and three taps so I've been brewing up a storm.

I've been reading the posts here for a while and received great advice and help when I posted. I also look at Brew Board. Thanks for reading if you got this far and thanks for all the help I've received.

Now, I think I'll pop open an Black Flag Imperial Stout (American Style). Never had one before but it's brewed by Santa Fe Brewing and I love their Chicken Killer Barley Wine.

Welcome.
So I have a terrible habit that I must bring to light. I skim through long postings most of the time rather than taking the time to actually read every word. Well that bit me in the ass on this post I skimmed over...

Rock on! Another homebrewer here in the valley of the sun! I'm in Gilbert and don't get enough time to brew, but do when I can. I wanted to let you know if you aren't aware of it already, there is a brew fest in the valley every January you won't want to miss. It's called the Strong Ale Fest. Lot's of fantastic micro's and beer shops with their standard and project beers. It's a don't miss kind of thing. I don't know the exact dates of it this year, but have heard it is going to be at the Mesa Amphitheatre. They've done it at better venues in the past, but the beer and the people are awesome! Check it out and maybe we'll see you there....

Answer is no for me. Mesa is a long way to go for a monthly meeting. There's another club out west in Peoria (also too far). I'm out here in no man's land. I was thinking about forming my own club up here in the NE valley - but I don't really have the time to get it off the ground right now. The BN is my club. Weekly virtual meetings - no problem. I am also an honorary THC member (Tucson Homebrew Club) considering I have many friends there and have attended a few of their events.
