I'm the PIneyWoodsBrewer, a.k.a. Rex
I have been enjoying the Brewing Network podcasts for several months and thought I would join the forum so I could maybe contribute to the brew kettle from time to time.

I am in Box Springs Georgia, just East of Columbus Ga. and I am relatively new to homebrewing. I have been doing all grain for about 6 months now and still get a thrill when I see the UPS driver pull up with another order of grain and equipment.

I am 53 years old, married well and retired early at age 40.

So this is what we do when the Greenboard goes down!

Howdy Daniela! Thanks for asking. I have tried several English ales and a few American lagers. I like the English Bitter the best so far. I have one beer I call my "Accidental Black Magic". It was supposed to be a bitter but I put in the wrong roasted grain. I used an English grain instead of the American version and it came out black as a cast iron skillet. But oddly it tastes damn good and folks that thought they didn't like dark beers said they really liked it.

I got into homebrewing because I couldn't buy a commercial keg of Killian's Red Ale in my area. (Somehow that one beer is sold in keg for "On Premise" sale only). So being a typical redneck I just said; "Well FINE then. I'll just make it myself". At the time I had no idea how to even start.

I took some time to read up on it online and after several weeks of studying I placed an order from 3Beer and the rest is history......

Frow what I've seen of GA (my wife is from SW GA, so we travel there pretty regularly), you pretty much have to make it yourself to get any craft beer. Sweetwater and Terrapin make nice beers, but it can be hard to find their stuff among the mountains of BMC at the local store.

Gordon Biersch is in Atlanta, but are they brewpub only?

Atlanta Brewing Co is a disaster. I wouldn't bother with that infected rubbish if it was handed to me.

Coastal GA is getting a lot better if you ever make it out here. Moon River is still going strong and until recently we had Old Savannah Brewing Company. A few of the local distributors are getting keen to craft beer and more is infiltrating the bars and shops.
