Norwalde,
There is a homebrew club in the Athens area. It is typically at Blockader Homebrew Supply on Baxter right up from Chelsea's, well known landmark. It's the ABV (Athens Brewers and Vinters). Info can be attained at blockader@negia.net. I live south of watkinsville and have been brewing since 1999. Just finished building a 20 gallon sculpture and brewed 2 batches. Anxious to taste the results. Seem promising.

Chuck,

Thanks for the info. I have been to Blockader a couple of times but didn't know about ABV. I just sent an e-mail asking for info on the club.
Life is just better with a closet full of beer.

They are having a homebrew competition sometime in April. I still have not made it to a meeting. They are usually on a Saturday afternoon and I'm typically in an impaired state. If you have any questions let me know. I would take a previous post advice and add about half of the extract at the begining and some at the end. Be sure to boil the last addition at least 10 minutes to clear DMS precursor. It will improve hop utilization and decrease caramelization. I never was able to brew an extract batch that didn't have the "wang". I jumped to AG about 6 years ago and haven't looked back. Still learning on every batch, though.
