That' s a great idea - you now even have enough time to brew a batch of beer while waiting in line at my local DMV / DOV / DOL
I almost lost it last time I went there. Several years ago they moved DMV offices here and installed a machine in the lobby and you pushed a button for the type of service you wanted and it spits out a letter of the alphabet with a number after it. Then you sit down and wait for your number to come up. Kinda like Bingo - you have a whole bunch of random letter / number combinations popping up on the little screens all around the place. E206 will come up and then you wait for 12 different numbers to come up before E207 is displayed. You're holding E216.
Fine - you can sit down in a common waiting room with 40 other people and go when you number is called instead of standing in line. At this new office it takes at least 3-4 times as long as the old place where we sat on a wooden bench outside and slowly slided our way to the front of the line (there was usually 8 people on the bench at any given time). But that makes sense since they now have twice as many people running things.
Last time I went there there was a new 20 minute standing line to get to the machine that generates the ticket, and you no longer can push the button on your own. Now there is a clerk who pushes that button for you. And she was training her assistant. Then off you go with the ticket and then go wait in the other area.
Good thing I had my ipod and the BN on - i was laughing my ass off instead of crying.
Now I know why old people get grumpy - I'm getting older and lose my patience when I see something that used to be so simple before become so complicated.
Whoops - got side tracked there ...
Welcome to the insanity!
