Not that another night at Elliots with Dechutes and oysters was bad.....

Tell the cab driver that you want to go to Pike & 12th if you want to get to the original one. They built a new big one across Qwest Field, but I haven't been there yet. Of their regular line-up I like the ESB, lager, BiFrost and the Stout is awesome. They usually have about 2-3 experimental or small-batch beers which are fun and some Belgian guest taps.

A couple of great beer bars are Uber Tavern and Duck Island Ale House off of Aurora Ave and are within walking distance of each other. Collins Pub downtown is a cool beer joint too.

Cheers.

Oh crap. One more thing. If you go to the Elysian and you like Belgian beers, you should go to The Stumbling Monk. It's in the same neighborhood. Small simple bar with all Belgians on tap and in bottles. Corner of Olive and Belmont.

Homebrew Shops in Seattle

Mon Jan 29, 2007 9:51 am

Hi all,

I recently relocated from San Francisco to Seattle. What are the good homebrew shops in this area? I used morebeer when I was SF because I wasn't a fan of SF's shop.

I've been to Larry's in Kent cause a relative lives in Normandy park but that's a hike and I would rather buy morebeer. I want to support local but morebeer feels local because of the BN.

On a side note, I'm impressed by the selection of beer here. The bay area has some of the best in the world but it seems like every bar or restaraunt I go to in Seattle has a different selection of beers. Not the usual Guiness, Stella, Amstel, Corona offering that most of the non beer places have in SF. Or in my old home town, Fresno Ca Bud, Bud Light, Coors, Coors Light, and for the sofistimicated folk the "imports" like Corona or Sierra Nevada. I drank a lot of that "Imported" Sierra Nevada in those days. "Chico is where those crazy hippies are, it's not 'Merica"

My favorites so far Big Time's IPA, Mac & Jack's African Amber. I felt like an idiot when a waitress rattled off the african amber. I asked if it was really african, because I wanted local not imported. Her response was "Are you new here?" But she was nice about it. She went on to say "I don't like beer and I like this one" which is usually a sign for me to steer clear. But I went with it anyway and enjoyed it.

I'm looking forward to the cask festival.

I'm out

Nostyle, I'm a happy customer of Mountain Homebrew in Kirkland (near the Kirkland Costco). They're a great shop, and they also sponsor the Cascade Brewer's Guild, the Eastside's homebrew club.

I also use morebeer for some stuff, of course.

What are the good homebrew shops in this area?

I go to Larry's every now and then. I like that shop. They hold beginner extract and beginner grain classes. Mostly I go to Bob's in the U District because it is close. Bob is a cool mellow dude. Mountain Homebrew in Kirkland is a nice shop, but I have noticed some higher prices there compared to Larry's. There is also Cellar Homebrew in Greenwood.

Definitely hit up the local brewpubs and the bars I mentioned earlier in this thread. Keep exlporing.

Cheers!
