Thanks for the notes.

After listening for so long it is as if I know everybody already.

There is a homebrew store on Oahu but I have been buying many of my parts and pieces from More Beer and Craigslist for starters. Shipping is a pain over here. I have given up listening to the radio and have dedicated my life to listening and now re-listening to the podcasts while driving. I have really gotten into beer and hosted a Beer Dinner last weekend where I served some Chimay, Allagash and Orval all paired with my dishes. So yes it has already changed a lot of things in my life and for the better. I am going to start brewing in January. Stay tuned.

Cool - just found out yesterday our local brewpub may be considering opening a LHBS store on Maui as well. Airfreight for grain and extract is pretty pricy. I can live with the shipping in the other stuff, but paying $20 to ship $10 of grain or extract is not very cost effective.

You better smuggle back a year's worth of supplies when you go mainland for NHC.

Welcome he-who-lives-in-paradise. It's %#$@$%^ snowing here...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The cost of living here is one of the tradeoffs. Our houses are typically smaller, and your bang for the buck is obviously much less. There are positive aspects as well. Not paradise, but is a slighlty alternative lifestyle of sorts. Folks that move here from other places find it challenging for the first year or two and either adapt and enjoy the differences, or they move off somewhere else.

I do miss skiing and getting in car and just being able to take a road trip, but after 20 years this place has grown on me as well.

I miss snow sometimes.

For you on the mainland, we had to close the windows last night as it got into the low 60's, it was quite chilly.

I went to order my first "Kit" from More Beer today and the shipping was about 85% of the cost of the product and that was USPS Priority Mail. I am going to have to go down to the little homebrew place here and see what they have. I'll let you know how it is stocked and what the selection is as it would be much cheaper to go parcel post from Oahu if that helps. I go by the area 2-3 times a week.

What do you do on Maui (other than brew)?

I'm a Construction Manager and currently work for the owner of the Inspiration Furniture company. I built the Honolulu Design Center on Kapiolani if you are familiar with it. I also spent 4 years on the Waikiki Beachwalk project in Wiakiki.

It looks like the Hawaii Division of the Army is strong with the Coprs.
