Great to see some locals in here! For the uninitiated, the south of Rhode Island (where I grew up in Hope Valley) the whole area is dominated by swamp land, and my insanely intelligent anscestors decided, hey this looks like a great place to settle, most being of English. Welsh, and Irish origin..any way, during the King Phillip War, well over 800 Natives were killed, or take as slaves on this piece of land, this is known as the Great Swamp Massacare http://www.churbuck.com/wordpress/?p=1357 (cool link) anyway my great greats decided this would be a great place to raise Young-uns and stayed....hence the term Swamp Yankee....essentially, a Swamp Yankee, or Swampuh, as we refer to ourselves as, is New Englands version of a Redneck, minus the bud light.
