The Pliny Lite went on tap at the 21A yesterday and Justin, Schuman, and I had to roll over and check it out. All bias aside, it was one of the best APAs I've had and no one in the entourage would disagree. It was the first time I've ever had a beer of mine on a commercial tap and I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out. At 1.056/1.013, you would think that 35 IBUs (they listed it on the menu as 55 IBUs presumably because they were out of their IPA) wouldn't be enough to get a hop forward beer but just like the homebrewed version, the 6 different hops varieties rode well above the malt. Or more exactly, the "special" malt bill got out of the way. As promised, I'll give out the recipe after the GABF ProAm. This beer could actually place.
I can't thank Sully and Jesse enough for the pleasure of brewing my beer at the 21A. Their "hands off/you're the brewer" approach was a little intimidating at first but in the end, it's a great feeling to have designed the beer and brewed it (well Chad and Peter did all the heavy lifting). It's an experience I'll never forget.
