Pocket-Knife Law Proposed

Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:46 am

(Washington) A new law proposed by the Customs and Border Protection Agency will widen the definition of "switchblade" to include pocket knives. Therefore, my dinky pocket knife, which I usually carry everywhere, will become a switchblade.

The Second Amendment Foundation and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) are joining forces with a group called Knife Rights to support Americans' right to own and carry the knives of their choice."

“The Second Amendment doesn't say ‘Firearms,’ it says ‘Arms,’ and knives are clearly covered,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

CCRKBA says one-hand-opening and assisted-opening knives represent the majority of most knife-makers’ product lines. “These are the knives Americans take with them to work and to play everyday,” CCRKBA said in a news release.

The group says Customs’ new interpretation of the Federal Switchblade Act will affect virtually everyone who carries a pocket knife, no matter what type.

It's alleged that the government is being low-profile in trying to push the legislation through before anyone notices.

I've never really understood why a switchblade is so bad. Is it because it can open easily. Then wouldn't fixed-bladed knives be worse? A knife is a knife...

btw: I'm Federal Law Enforcement so if you're within 25 feet of me and you come at me with a knife, you will be shot...

That's what pisses me off so much - its just another way for the federal government to exerciser power over the general population

The first thing I did when Obama got elected was go out and buy a AR-15 and a AK-47 and as many hi cap mags as I could get my hands on

Couldn't agree more. I carry a knife with open assist. The blade is 2.5"...not exactly a dangerous weapon. I mean, sure I could kill someone, but by that logic, a dinner fork or ball point pen are just as dangerous. It's the same with the old ban on hi cap magazines for semi autos. A Glock holds 10 rounds in a standard mag and 15 in a hi cap. What, like the first 10 aren't the dangerous ones, only rounds 11-15?? Dumb ass politicians.

Their trying to bring that back - You know Joe Biden was behind the first one

I love how the call it "The assault weapons ban" but it doesn't ban assault weapons

I got in a huge argument with a police officer about my SKS during the first ban

I told him that #1 this is a two point rifle, the bayonet is one point and the grenade launcher is a point. the mag is NOT a point because it is not detachable

#2 This weapon is not cover by the ban because it was made before the ban

He still wanted to take it so I told him that I wanted to see his supervisor. The LT came out took one look at the SKS and said "this is fine"

That cop was pissed that I was right

All the fascist regimes of history began with a disarming of the public. It's easier to control the population when they can't fight back. And I'm not throwing the term "fascist" around in the popular way modern hippies like to apply to everything they don't like. I'm referring the real definition of a fascist regime.
