I didn't enter last year, but now I'm planning to max out for 2016 Baltimore. I don't get the booing. It doesn't seem right.

I voted keep the club. I have 2 small kids and work 50-60 hrs a week. This is my club. I can't drive 40 minutes mid-week to seek out another club. I was able to pour my beer at NHC 2014 Philly and met a ton of great people. I'm not sure any of the counter-arguments even hold water.

Both the "not a real club" people and the "keep kicking ass" people lack class in my opinion.

To me the Brewing Network is about spreading brewing knowledge and supporting the brewing world. This is just a distraction. Lets focus on the craft.

Cheers

I couldn't disagree more ... and I probably should have just ignored the comment. The BNArmy owes it to Quaff to keep up the competition so that when they win next year or the next ... it is a real win. If the BNarmy club were to completely drop out, the Quaff win would be hollow and there are NO OTHER CLUBS IN THE NATION that can compete at that level. Look at the point spread between 1st/2nd and 3rd. The only appropriate time for the BN to make adjustments would be after Quaff won. Then BN east/west could be created and it would take 6+ years for one of them to possibly take the COTY metal again. After several years, Quaff will be getting the boos/silence ... it happens to everyone that is at the top. Both the BN and Quaff had poor results in the 2nd round, it could have gone either way. I am super impressed with the integrity of both the Quaff club and the BNArmy. The other folks are not even in the running, but booing all the same ... those are the folks that should be ashamed.

With that all said, I could see Justin just cringing on the win this year ... he was rooting for Quaff. Hats off to Justin ... this is a shit show that he did not desire but did create as a catalyst ... from a garage, sweating, and totaly reliant on the content of his great group of friends. Justin has created the best thing that homebrewing and craft brewing has ever seen before! (some of that is the bussiness side, but also tied to the BNArmy club that was organically born as a result).

Thats one of the things that frustate me about this. The mentality that its unfair because the BN has this podcast that reaches so many people. It just magically appeared one day I guess. There was no work or talent involved, right?

If the BN is meant for all members of the brewing community, why is it at the same time positioning itself as an exclusive group of competitors?

As far as I'm aware there's no Homebrewtalk club. Rather, it's a place for the whole community to share information. I think of the BN the same way, though the fact that it brings in the top brewers from all around the world places it at the top level, and makes the brewcasters serious diplomats of the beer world.

Why create a "with us or against us" situation?

There are two issues here. One is that people have a problem with large clubs dominating CoTY. As was discussed on the Session, that's their problem for not actively petitioning for a rule change.
The second issue is that the Brewing Network is being viewed as a large club. I don't think the BN is a large club. I don't think it's a club at all. It's an amazing media outlet with a huge following around the world.

If people want to belong to an internet based club, it could be a great thing to build a separate one from scratch.

There is a homebrewtalk aha club. "homebrewtalk brewers"... We didn't create a "with us/against us" all of the whiners did. I really don't think any of us care about the COTY award, but we care that we're being disrespected when we win. If shows poor sportsmanship.

A President isnt going to fill my in box with junk, or expect anything from me. (JP)
A VP who earned it (current highest medaller, multiple VPs if a tie)
And a Sgt of Arms that the Pres trusts. (His pick)

The trouble is that I highly doubt that very many soldiers actually use this forum... so how do you include them in the discussion? Probably you dont. Thats one reason to have a default selection process. Maybe, to save JPs sanity, the current VP becomes next year's Pres. Then JP is one year and retired.

As much as I love JP, I don't think any BN staff should be involved if we make the BN/BNArmy split. Isn't it kind of the point to have that complete separation?
