Easy to build. I used a 15 gal blue plastic bucket with the top cut off for the tank. Inside The keg sits on a upside down 5 gal keg with 1/2 holes so the PBW can flow freely through the pump. Right now the worse keg I have is being cleaned. Thanks again

I ordered one so I'm 1/2 there. Is there any feedback on the Pump I will need and where I can get one? It looks like it has a hose-bib connection on the pump end. Is this typical for an aquarium pump?

It's just a 1/6 hp sump pump from lowe's. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn...lpage=none I think I got mine on sale for high 40s, low 50s. I justify the expense because I use it to push ice water through my IC when chilling.

Maybe this has already been thought of, but if you picked up a small enough submersible pump that would fit into a corney...

you could use this little gadget to circulate right within the keg. And use it to transfer the PBW from keg to keg...

I thought of that, but I already had the 1/6hp pump for recirculating chilling water.

If I remember, I saw a small little pump at Lowe's that would fit in a corny.

I picked up a "Fountain" pump much smaller and it works great. The connection is a 5/8 post so I simply made an adapter with a hose connector and a short piece of tubing. Both Home Depot and Lowes has the small landscape type pumps that go down pretty small so I am sure you could get one to go inside as well.

anyone know if the sump pump heats up? The one I found at home depot says it's thermoplastic. I also found a pond pump for cheaper but don't know if it will heat up. Anyone know?

if you got a threaded piece of pipe, screwed a stopper on the end, and put some strategic holes in it all, you could take an old stool or board and put a hole it it, stuck carboy on upside down, and put a bucket of pbw hot water under it with the pump and pipe and clean your carboy interiors like doc.
Then one pump serves double duty!

Am I missing something? If you have water being forced into the sealed keg down both posts...how does the water flow?

I am pretty sure the lid is off he corny.

The lid is off and is soaking in the PBW solution in the reservoir.

Then that's a weird lid...or maybe it's upside down...because I can see the reflection of the hose in the top of the corny.

That's not a weird lid - it's water. There's no lid on the corny. The water that's being pumped in flows out the top of the open corny, runs down the sides, and back into the sink.

How long are yall letting the pump run for. a few minutes or hours?

When I've finished a keg I simply wash it out with a pressure nozel on my hose, give it a quick internal scrub with a course sponge and put a gallon of Starsan in it, pressurize it (to keep the seals intact) and run some Starsan through the liquid out QD and then when I'm ready to use it simply shake it and dispense the rest of the Starsan to ready it for the beer. Curious why this whole recirculation system is necessary?

Michah, I give it 20 minutes. Never a problem, max I've aged a beer so far using this method is 7 months with no problems.

I got a big rubbermaid tub, tubing, adapters, cornie fittings, and I had an old non-submersible pump. I set it up with garden qd's and a valved splitter (garden hose style). I pull the water out of the tub into the pump, then down the split lines into the keg, it fills, overflows, and I leave it run for a while. I will also fill up a second, run it a few minutes, then use the fittings on just the beer-out posts, once the gas-in posts have had 5 minutes each.
I typically leave the setup running for 20-30 minutes and every keg so far has been spotless. I have put lids on and opened the pressure relieve valve to clean through that also.

I can use the garden qd to pop off my hose and hook it to a garden hose and rinse them the same way, but typically I drain them of detergent water, run a bunch of water through the split hose with fittings down the dip tubes, then use the regular hose sprayer to rinse the keg upside down.

Then I fill one with a fresh batch of starsan. When I've cleaned all my dirty kegs (kept sealed dirty as they empty until I have at least six) and rinsed them, I use a beer-to-beer jumper tube and pump a completely full keg of starsan through each one, pulling the releif valve and letting it foam through, same with gas dip tube. Then I can pump it into a bucket to see if it's still usable. I am left with clean, sanitized kegs fully purged with CO2, sealed and waiting for me to refill! It can take a while, but it's easy work so I do other things during it.

Here is my interpretation of this cleaner. PVC was easy to work with and cheap. All of these parts were obtained from Home Depot except for the keg connections.

I made one of these and it works well but one thing that I am noticing is that after sitting in the oxyclean solution that cycles through the corny for 10 minutes or so the rubber on the bottom of the corny seems to start to disintegrate and you get black gunk on your hands.

here is the setup I went with. $40 pond pump (500 GPH). I put the pond pump in the bucket and fill with PBW solution. Then chain kegs together and pump from one keg to the next then back into the bucket. I leave the release valve on the lid open until the keg completely fills and solution flows through the valve, then close it.

Nice work! Looks like it addresses any conflict with the cornie base rubber or keg graffiti on the outside while still taking care of cleaning the inside.

It actually only takes a few minutes to break down and scrub a corny, but if it's really a messy keg, and one feels the need to use PBW, why not just fill-and-soak? I thought that was the whole reason for using a product like PBW. Soaking seems to work fine for even the grungiest bottles. Other than the fun of building another gadget, is there really an advantage to recirculating the solution?

If you are an all grain brewer and you have a large kettle with a drain valve, do all this with your existing transfer pump and your kettle as the "sink". Then the only cost you have is hose and tee. I assume you'll already have an air side and fluid ball lock connector for your kegs. You've already invested in a pump, use it. clean everything at once; kettle, counter flow chiller AND your cornies. Not to mention you can do this all in your garage on top of your heat source to warm your water to 150 degrees or so to increase the effectivemess. Best part is your kitchen sink stays free of your beer work. All you married folks out there know that part is invaluable.

Got sick of looking at and contemplating cleaning a half dozen empty kegs.
Picked up a sump pump for $5 at a yard sale and built a keg cleaner. Cost me another $10 or so just for the additional pvc parts I needed but the thing works great! I should have built this years ago.
